When swallowed,
amphetamine tablets usually take effects within 20
to 30 minutes, powder amphetamine slightly less, but
both depend on how recently you ate. When snorted,
the effects are much quicker, around 5 to 10
minutes. When injected the effects are almost
instantaneous.
People usually feel an increase in energy,
confidence, alertness and often a desire to talk to
others. Appetite is decreased (see below) and people often find
that they grind their teeth.
The effects usually last about 2 to 8 hours
dependent on doseage and method of taking, and tend
to leave you tired in proportion to how awake you
were feeling previously. This tends to lead people
to take more, and 'speed binges' can last all weekend
or longer.
In the 1950's the appetite
suppressing properties of amphetamines were
exploited as can be seen in this advert for Appetrol.
